The largest of several hundred islands in Belize, Ambergris Caye is one of the top travel destinations in Belize. While it’s one of the most populated and developed islands, it retains a relaxed feel with its lack of tall buildings and cars, as golf carts are the preferred method of transportation here. In addition to troves of visitors, Ambergris Caye also has a vibrant expat community.
There are many piers along the coasts of Ambergris Caye. Visitors are able to rent a boat or go on an organized tour for diving, deep-sea fishing, or sailboating to other islands. Whatever you do, be sure to take a trip out to the spectacular Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the longest in the Western hemisphere, and the several marine reserves close by.
San Pedro Day is celebrated annually on June 27.
